Services

Placemaking concerns itself with more than just physical space. Equally important is how we live into our physical space. Flourish’s work centers both. Below you’ll find a quick snapshot of the services we offer. You can find a more in-depth look at our partnership process here.

Space Use and Feasibility

We work with faith communities and organizations of all shapes and sizes as they dare to dream in big and bold ways, discerning next steps about how their physical assets might be reactivated in more missional and sustainable ways.

  • Feasibility – The widest scope of our work involves a thorough feasibility study in which we assess not only what is possible with a faith community or organization’s physical space and land, but also their cultural and financial readiness to take on and manage the work.
  • Space Utilization – A modified and condensed process aiming to produce a market snapshot of the property, along with a highest and best use consideration.

Stakeholder Engagement

Physical space matters. It communicates something, for good and for bad. But the work of placemaking goes beyond physical space transformation and into how we inhabit these reactivated spaces. Our posture, even more than our space, is foundational to the impact we have.

We work with faith communities and organizations to look inside and out—examining our postures and policies, cultural competency, and the ways in which we know and love our neighbors as we seek the flourishing of our neighborhood.

  • Change-Ready Faith Community Assessment – It can be hard for many faith communities to imagine expressions beyond their primary worship gatherings. Living into new ways of leveraging their space and pursuing fresh expressions is even more challenging. We work with faith communities to assess their readiness for the work ahead.
  • Neighborhood Engagement – For many faith communities, the gravity toward worship gatherings has pulled their focus away from their neighbors. As faith communities become more internally-focused, one of the biggest risks is losing their neighborliness. We work with faith communities to understand and better engage the neighborhoods in which they are placed.

Project Management

Navigating conversations and arrangements between municipal regulators, architects, and developers—not to mention congregants and other key project stakeholders—can be timeconsuming, complex, even overwhelming. Our team of industry experts can help move your project from dream to delivery.

  • Project Management – As change-ready faith communities plan for future development within their site, we work alongside them to provide customized project oversight every step along the way.
  • Fund Development – Creative projects almost always require creative fund development. We provide support and facilitation in exploring contextualized financial solutions to carry a project past completion and onto ongoing sustainability.

Space Solutions

While the bulk of our placemaking work is time spent with faith communities, no less important is the work we do with community-facing organizations and individuals who are seeking space from which to do their work.

  • Finding Space – Because of the extensive network of places of worship we partner with, we are able to help organizations, groups and individuals find the right space to fit their needs.
  • Facilitating Space Use Agreements – Crafting a space use agreement or lease between a faith community and an organization can be tricky. Fortunately, we have a team experienced in navigating those waters—working to create an arrangement that not only protects the interests of all parties involved but also sets them up to flourish.
